Tragic Crash on U.S. 277 South Takes Life of Local Man

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — In the early hours of Tuesday, a devastating accident occurred on U.S. 277 South near Ratliff Road, resulting in the death of Dale Edward Winey, a 70-year-old resident of San Angelo.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that Winey was traveling south in his 2014 pickup truck when he inexplicably veered from his lane. Crossing the median and the opposing northbound lanes, Winey's vehicle then collided with a pole off the roadside.

Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard pronounced Winey dead at the crash site.

Conditions were clear with a dry roadway at the time of the incident, which was recorded at 5:50 a.m. Local law enforcement, including Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies and San Angelo Fire and EMS personnel, were dispatched to the scene. Trooper Zachary Miller from the Texas DPS's San Angelo division is leading the ongoing investigation into this tragic event.
