Crash at Beauregard and Abe Intersection Raises Questions

SAN ANGELO, TX — An alleged crash at the intersection of W. Beauregard Ave. and S. Abe St. on Sunday night, reported at approximately 7:30 p.m., involved two SUVs—a white Chevrolet Traverse and a red Jeep Grand Cherokee. Despite initial reports of a collision, there was an absence of visible damage to either vehicle.

The San Angelo Fire Department’s EMS ambulance services transported the driver of the Chevrolet SUV to Shannon ER even though the circumstances surrounding the purported impact and injuries were unclear.

Traffic on Beauregard was disrupted for close to an hour while law enforcement officers carried out a detailed investigation. Witnesses indicated that both vehicles were traveling westbound on Beauregard when the collision was said to have occurred at the traffic light at the intersection with Abe, where the Jeep purportedly struck the Chevrolet from behind.

The Cherokee's driver attributed the incident to her foot inadvertently slipping off the brake pedal, leading to the unexpected movement of the Jeep into the Chevrolet.

Although the Chevrolet's driver appeared to be unharmed, she elected to be rushed to the hospital in the ambulance. The City of San Angelo's standard fee schedule lists the ambulance service at $1,025, plus $14 per mile, for those transported to Shannon without the need for life support. In cases where life-saving measures are required en route, the fee increases to $1,760, in addition to the per-mile charge.

Following the assessment, police said the woman behind the wheel of the Jeep with the slippery foot received a citation. After the comprehensive on-site evaluation by the police, both SUVs were driven from the scene on each vehicles' own power, leaving behind little evidence of the earlier reported event.
