SAN ANGELO, TX — A 19-year-old male was apprehended after attempting to flee on foot during a traffic stop in Southside San Angelo. Ivan Lopez is now in custody, facing several charges in connection to this incident.
A member of the San Angelo Police Department’s (SAPD) Anti-Crime Unit identified Lopez driving a white Dodge Charger near the River Ranch Apartments. Officers, aware of active warrants for Lopez's arrest, initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle in the 1700 block of Knickerbocker Road.
Lopez attempted to flee the scene on foot after abruptly exiting his vehicle. The pursuing officers witnessed him discard an unidentified item over a fence at the 3600 block of S. Jackson Street. He was subsequently detained by responding officers a short distance away.
Upon searching the vicinity, officers discovered that the discarded item was a stolen handgun, modified for automatic fire. In addition, Lopez was found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana and suspected THC vape pens. He was arrested and charged with the following offenses, with the possibility of additional charges pending as the investigation continues:
- Multiple County Warrants
- Possession of Marijuana (<2oz)
- Evading Arrest/Detention on Foot
- Unlawful Carry of a Weapon
Lopez's bond is set at $13,500 while he sits in the county jail.
