MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Cristian Javier dominated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday, October 10, to put the Houston Astros on the cusp of a 7th-straight appearance in the ALCS. Javier limited the Minnesota Twins to one hit over five scoreless innings, and the Astros’ offense pummelled the Twins to claim victory in Game 3 of the ALDS 9-1.
The crowd at Target Field tried to get in Javier’s head early by counting down the pitch clock on every pitch, but the chanting seemed to have the opposite effect.
"I used it in my favor," Javier said. "At that point, I stopped paying attention to the clock because they were counting and just paid attention to the catcher."
The Astros pitcher struck out nine batters in 5 ⅓ innings to set Houston up with the best chance to win. On offense, Kyle Tucker kicked off Houston’s offense in the 1st with an RBI single that scored Jose Altuve. On the next at-bat, Jose Abreu hit a 442-foot shot to score three more runs, and the Astros took a 4-0 lead in the 1st. Bregman added another homer in the 5th inning, and Yordan Alvarez and Abreu added two more homers in the 9th on the way to a dominant 9-1 win.
Houston has a 2-1 advantage in the ALDS as of now and can advance to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) with another win over the Twins on Wednesday night’s Game 4. The Astros’ AL West rivals, the Texas Rangers, already await Houston in the ALCS, and if Houston can close out the series on Wednesday, be ready for a Texas-sized battle in the Lone Star State.
With that being said, Houston still has to handle business tonight against a tough Minnesota Twins squad. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. Minnesota will start RHP Joe Ryan, and the Astros will start RHP Jose Urquidy.
