Border Patrol Boat Crew Saves Honduran From Drowning

Del Rio - On July 10, Border Patrol agents rescued one undocumented immigrant after he attempted to illegally cross the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass.

At approximately 2 p.m. Friday, Eagle Pass South Station agents performing marine operations, observed one subject in the Rio Grande River struggling to stay afloat due to the fast moving current. The agents responded quickly by pulling the subject from the river onto the airboat. Once on shore, the agents noticed the subject had lacerations on his body and needed additional medical attention. The subject was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

“All of our agents are trained in basic first aid and water rescue and utilize these skills in their everyday duties. The agents at the scene were able to respond quickly and give the individual the attention he needed. I commend them for their actions,” said Rodolfo Karisch, Chief Patrol Agent, Del Rio Sector. “This incident highlights the dangers of attempting to enter the United States illegally.”

For Fiscal Year 2015, Del Rio Sector agents have successfully rescued 11 individuals. Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is an integral part of the South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
