Pedestrian Hit by 18-Wheeler in the Permian Basin

 

ODESSA, TX – A pedestrian was struck by an 18-wheeler Thursday morning on I-20 in the Permian Basin.

The following is a press release from the Odessa Police Department:

The Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to an auto-pedestrian crash, on Sep. 21, 2023 at around 8:30 a.m., in the area of I-20 and West County Road. A pedestrian was on the side of the roadway working on a vehicle. Somehow, the 18-wheeler struck the disabled vehicle/pedestrian, causing the pedestrian to sustain injuries. The patient was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler then took out a road sign and a power pole. That driver was not transported to the hospital. Eastbound lanes on the I-20 are down to one lane, and the south service road is shut down while OPD is investigating. Traffic is expected to be backed up for quite some time.
