Planetarium to Host Free Show Tuesday

Angelo State University’s Global Immersion Center (GIC), formerly the Planetarium, will present a free evening focusing on the New Horizons spacecraft’s mission to dwarf planet Pluto on Tuesday, July 14, in the Vincent Nursing-Physical Science Building, 2333 Vanderventer St.

The evening will begin at 8 p.m. with the full-dome planetarium show “Exploring New Horizons” that examines the New Horizons spacecraft’s mission to Pluto. The program reviews the history of planetary discovery from ancient times and focuses especially on that of Pluto and how it has led to an amazing mission to explore the Kuiper Belt. A basic overview of the whole Solar System is included.

Following the show, telescopes will be set up outside the Vincent Building to view Saturn, Jupiter and Venus.

For more information, call the GIC at 325-942-2136. Information on the regularly scheduled planetarium shows is available online at www.angelo.edu/dept/physics/planetarium.php.
