WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks took another step in preparation for the 2023 football season on Friday night, August 18. The Midland Christian Mustangs traveled to Wall for a scrimmage that Wall hoped would better prepare them for the tough opponents the Hawks might face in the future.
Both teams squared off in a heated battle that went back and forth throughout the night. Midland Christian is a talented football team, so the Hawks had their hands full early. Wall tried out several new things on offense, including running some plays out of the gun. Historically a triple option team under Head Coach Houston Guy, the Hawks practiced several different formations with quarterback Gunnar Dillard slinging the ball around.
After both teams' 1st and 2nd strings traded reps with each other, the two ball clubs played a ‘live quarter’ that simulated what would happen in an official game next week. Wall’s impressive defense kept Midland Christian out of the end zone and even managed to snag an interception on the Mustangs' side of the field. However, Midland Christian played just as hard and stonewalled Wall at the 4-yard line.
In the end, neither team took a lead over the other, and the live quarter ended in a tie. Both teams received critical practice that will prepare them starting next week. Stay tuned this weekend for a more in-depth breakdown of the scrimmage and an interview with Head Coach Houston Guy.
