School Bus Routes and Safety Information for San Angelo ISD

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 2023-24 school year begins this week, August 17, and as students prepare for classes, San Angelo ISD has the bus routes posted for parents who need help with transportation this year. Along with the bus routes, SAISD also has the Bus Rider’s Safety Handbook available online to help students learn how to arrive to and from school on the bus safely. 

Per SAISD’s website, the school district says its goal is “to safely provide quality and reliable service for students, staff, and community through a well-trained and positive staff that satisfies customers.” The transportation department provides rides to 1,800 San Angelo ISD students to and from school, as well as to and from extracurricular activities every school year. San Angelo ISD will implement its new SMART tag system in 2023. “San Angelo ISD uses the SMART tag system to improve safety, security, visibility, and communication,” the school district said. “Every San Angelo ISD student will receive a SMART tag card. Students use the SMART tag cards to ride the bus, as student ID cards, in the lunch line, and to check out library books.” 

“SMART tag use in bus transportation is designed to ensure authorized ridership and provides live monitoring of students loading and unloading off of their school buses to keep parents, transportation, and administrators informed.”

In addition to the SMART tag system information, the safety handbook also includes information on general safety, video cameras on buses, cell phones, procedures for waiting on buses, loading and getting off the bus, expected conduct on the bus, and more.

A reminder for other drivers on the road. With school buses in operation, drivers need to stay vigilant when they come across them around town. Drivers who illegally pass a school bus face a $1250 fine for a first offense.
