San Angelo ISD Begins Major Renovations to Two Elementary Schools

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Independent School District is currently working on two major renovations to two elementary school campuses.

As previously reported, during the Mar. 2022 school board meeting, the San Angelo ISD School Board voted in favor to combine four elementary schools into two. For the original story see: San Angelo ISD Board Votes to Combine Beloved Elementary Schools

Now the City of San Angelo's Building Department have approved a $4.2 million permit for Fannin Elementary and a $13.5 million permit for McGill Elementary. With the new build, Fannin will add on a 10,795 square foot addition, adding eight modern classrooms adjoining the 1997 classroom addition. The Fannin addition will also include a collaboration area, new student and staff restrooms, a campus wide fire alarm update and a pick-up and drop off area with additional parking.

As for McGill, the campus will add on a 34,558 square feet addition to include 15 classrooms, a teacher work room, new student and staff restrooms, a new entry to the campus and a new cafeteria.

"The recommendation included renovations and new builds at Fannin and McGill Elementary without a bond measure," commented the school district in a statement. "Through fiscally conservative policies and practices, SAISD and the Board generated the expected funds without going to taxpayers for an additional bond to complete the needed construction to combine campuses."

The combination of the schools will go into effect the 2024-2025 school year. Completion date of the renovations have not been revealed at this time.
