SAN ANGEO— A San Angelo man has been sentenced for several crimes including assault of a peace officer and evading arrest.
Bobby Gasca, 23, has been sentenced for assault of a peace officer, family violence, evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle, and unauthorized absence from a correctional facility.
According to court documents, on October 8, 2021, a call for service for a domestic disturbance was made for the 3300 block of Canyon Creek Drive. A San Angelo police officer responded and contacted Gasca outside the residence.
Gasca told the officer that he had been wrestling with a woman and no assault had taken place. Later, the officer would learn from the victim that she had, if fact, been the victim of an assault. The officer observed that the victim’s lip was busted and swollen and that Gasca caused this during a physical dispute. Gasca refuted the claim and said the victim hit herself in the face while they argued over the phone.
A witness told officers that Gasca and the victim were in a dating relationship and were employed by the same company as caretakers.
When the officer was talking to Gasca he began walking towards a vehicle. The officer told him he was detained and was not free to leave. Then, Gasca entered the vehicle and began operating it to leave the scene. The officer lost her footing while holding the door of the vehicle and this resulted in the back left tire rolling over her foot. Gasca then departed the scene while the officer attempted to pursue him in her patrol vehicle.
Also, on March 24, 2021, Gasca was seen leaving the Roy K. Robb Community Corrections Facility after jumping out of the window and was found walking northbound on Highway 277.
For the guilty plea, Gasca was sentenced to 450 days in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the unauthorized absence from a correctional facility. For the assault of a peace officer, continuous family violence, and evading arrest charges, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
