Heat Kills the Fort Worth Stock Yard Cattle Drive

FORT WORTH, TX – If you've ever been to the Fort Worth Stock Yards during the day than you've likely seen the Fort Worth Herd drive cattle down the main road. Well this summer the cowboys have decided that afternoon drives won't be happening because of the extreme Texas Heat.

“We’re constantly monitoring their condition to make sure they are safe, to make sure the staff is ok as well as our guests," said the trail boss Kristin Jaworski. “When we see these heat advisories, we’re watching the temperature, the humidity."

From today until July 31, the 4 p.m. cattle drive will be canceled. Instead the herd will have a drive at 11:30 a.m. and a behind the scene cattle experience from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Typically the afternoon drive is a day to day decision. As a result of record extreme heat in Texas this year the afternoon drive has been canceled for the entire month.
