Behind the Scenes of the Upcoming 4th of July Fireworks Show on Lake Nasworthy

TimeClock Plus and the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association are cooperating to bring the annual 4^th of July Fireworks Show to Lake Nasworthy on Saturday. The fireworks will begin at about 9:30 and will last for about 30 minutes. The show will be displayed from the dam across from Goodfellow Air Force Base Recrational Camp.

According to TimeClock’s Vice President of Marketing and Quality Assurance Scott Turner, the Air Force Base provided the community with a fireworks display “for as long as [he] could remember” until TimeClock and the Homeowners Association took over.

“The homeowners association said ‘man, we’d really like to bring that back,’” Turner said. “It’s pretty unique. Not only is it a great show, but man, seeing fireworks over the lake is pretty special. So we said ‘yeah, we’ll help out.’”

Turner said that the show gets “better and better” with each passing year.

“We think it’s a good thing for the community,” Turner said. “We’re a 26-year-old business here in San Angelo and this is our home. If we have an opportunity to do something that helps the community and is a benefit then we want to try to do that.”

The display will begin once the sky is dark enough for the fireworks to be seen clearly. Turner claims that the fireworks are usually launched as music from radio station KIXY on 94.7 FM plays.

“The lake is pretty wide open and gives us all a lot of room to be able to watch the show,” Turner said. “What I would recommend is go to the lake and take your family and cook some hotdogs out there. Find you a nice place and just spend a few hours with the family.”

TimeClock Plus and the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association have taken great efforts to ensure the safety of the event. According to Turner, the San Angelo Police Department will be present, as well as the Wall or Christoval Volunteer Fire Department.

“The last few years I think the police department’s done a great job of filtering all the people out of the lake and getting them home,” Turner said. “But we always try to emphasize just take your time. It’s a Saturday night, and nobody has to rush to get home because they got to go to work the next day or anything like that. Just take your time getting home and be safe.”

Pyro Shows of Texas and Ken Landon are in charge of orchestrating a safe and entertaining fireworks show for the 4^th.

“We’re really excited about this one,” Turner said. “We think it’s going to be great. Especially for the city, the community. It’s going to be a great show for everybody.”

TimeClock Plus is a workforce management time and attendance solution provider. The company focuses on creating ways for organizations to track their employee’s hours. Turner said that TimeClock has 60,000 customers worldwide and three or four thousands systems a year. Turner has been with the company for 20 years and has watched the workforce grow from around 8 to about 130 in San Angelo.

“As a member of the community, we feel like San Angelo’s a great place,” Turner said. “There’s a lot of great people here and typically a company like us isn’t really located in West Texas. A software development company is usually in Austin or something like that. But we love San Angelo and the community that we have here and if we can do something special, we want to try to. Hopefully everybody enjoys it.”
