Scam Alert: Caller Claims to be TGC Grand Jury Summons

SAN ANGELO – Local residents are being alerted to a phone scam where the scammer pretends to be calling about a Grand Jury Summons attempting to collect a fine or court fee.

According to Tom Green County Judge Lane Carter, residents have reported that the caller mentions him by name and demands payment over the phone.

"It's not me!" Judge Carter said Tuesday afternoon.  The caller also mentioned Judge Carter by Name.

Grand Juries in Tom Green County are administered by the District Clerk's office and communications are sent by mail, not by phone.  Grand Juries don't assess fines or court fees and don't make cold calls for payment according to the Judge.

If you have any questions about a phone call or correspondence claiming to be from a Grand Jury, call the TGC District Clerk's Office at 325-659-6579.
