HelpAdvisor used data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation to determine which states have had the most boating accidents in the last 10 years.

Here were the key findings of the study:

  • Texas also ranked 3rd for most boating accidents in 2021 (238).
  • Texas ranked 2nd for boating fatalities during the 10-year study period (412).
  • Texas averaged one death for every 4.1 accidents during the study period (highest in U.S.).
  • The state saw 181 alcohol-related boating accidents during the study period, the 2nd most in the U.S.

This summer, remember to use proper boating etiquette on the lake. In Texas, you must have personal floatation devices, be at least 18 years of age, and have a boating license. CLICK HERE for the Texas Parks & Wildlife for boating regulations and mandatory boater education.

Also remember, do not operate a boat while drinking.
