In a letter sent out by SAISD School Board President Taylor Kingman, on June 5, 2023, after 8 years as Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff will be retiring this December.
Dethloff took the helm back in 2015 but has been with the school district since 2009. Prior to that he was a principal and has a total of 33 years education experience.
The school board did not say who will replace Dethloff. However they did note that the process will be thorough as it will affect everyone involved.
The following is the letter that was sent out:
Dear San Angelo ISD Community,
This afternoon, Dr. Carl Dethloff, Superintendent of San Angelo ISD, announced his intention to retire in December. He has spent thirty-three years in service to Texas students in public education, with most of those years dedicated to SAISD. For the past nine years, he has provided guidance as our district's Superintendent. As a school board, we want to take this opportunity to formally thank Dr. Dethloff and his family for his invaluable service to our community. His unwavering commitment to ensuring the success of all students and his dedication to our district have made a significant impact on the lives of our students, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
As a board, we fully recognize the significance of selecting our next Superintendent. We understand that our decision will have a profound impact on our students, staff, families, and the community as a whole. Therefore, we intend to engage a search firm and establish a comprehensive timeline for the hiring process of our next Superintendent. We plan to actively seek input from parents, staff, students, and community members to create an ideal profile for our next leader. Our aim is to facilitate a smooth transition to a new Superintendent who will continue to advance our district's progress.
Under Dr. Dethloff's tenure, we have achieved commendable milestones as a district. However, we acknowledge that our next superintendent must set a standard that fosters even greater student success and enhances staff retention, all while navigating the evolving landscape of public education.
Our vision for SAISD is to become the premier school district in West Texas for both students and staff. We will diligently search for a strong candidate who aligns with our West Texas values and fosters a culture of growth, enabling students to effectively communicate, collaborate, create, and think critically. The children of San Angelo, the staff of SAISD, and our community deserve an exceptional leader, and it is our utmost goal to identify and select such a candidate for our district.
Sincerely,
Taylor Kingman
