SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been indicted for taking cocaine into the Tom Green County Detention Facility.
According to court documents, on January 12, 2023, at 7:30 p.m., investigators conducted a traffic stop for expired registration. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on the 2000 block of North Bryant. Investigators asked the driver, identified as Jose Vallejo, if he had any warrants or of there was anything illegal in the vehicle.
Vallejo allegedly said there was nothing in the vehicle and told the investigator “You can search me if you want.”. A consent search was conducted, and nothing was located at the time. The investigator then learned from dispatch that Vallejo had six active and confirmed warrants from the City of San Angelo.
The investigator place Vallejo under arrest and transported him to the Tom Green County Detention Facility. While transporting Vallejo, the investigator asked again if Vallejo had anything on him to which Vallejo allegedly told him “No” again.
The investigator asked a third time if Vallejo had anything because once they entered the jail, it would be an enhanced charge. Vallejo allegedly told him “No” yet again.
When they entered the processing area of the jail, Vallejo asked if he could use the restroom. The investigator walked Vallejo into a holding cell to use the restroom. While Vallejo was using the restroom, a clear jeweler’s bag fell between Vallejo’s legs. Investigators approached to seize the bag, which contained .83 grams of cocaine.
Vallejo was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility for possession of a controlled substance, prohibited substance inside a correctional facility, and for the six warrants.
