SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been indicted for the brutal sexual assault of a woman in 2022.
Jose Jaime Hernandez, 30, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated sexual assault after beating a woman with a wooden board and then raping her.
According to court documents, on September 13, 2022, San Angelo police were dispatched to a residence on East 24th Street regarding a sexual assault. Investigators were advised that property belonging to the victim was in the backyard of a residence on the 100 block of East 25th Street and were given the location of the victim as well.
A field interview and a sexual assault exam were conducted with the victim. Investigators learned that Hernandez had messaged the victim on social media and that both the victim and Hernandez had hung out a few times. The victim advised that she met with Hernandez at a convenience store, and she rode with him back to his residence.
Hernandez parked in the backyard of the property and the victim began to ignore him. Hernandez then allegedly exited the vehicle, opened the passenger door, and slapped the victim across the face. Then, Hernandez grabbed the victim by her hair and pulled her out of the truck.
Hernandez allegedly told the victim that she was going to die and that he wanted to run over her head with his tire. He demanded she take off her jewelry and her watch or he would assault her again. Hernandez then told the victim she was going to die, and she was not going home. The victim also claims that Hernandez said she needed to tell everyone she was not going home and that she loved him.
Hernandez grabbed a wooden board and told the victim to stand against the truck and not to move. He then started striking the victim across the backside with the wooden board. He went through her wallet and several items dropped to the ground.
The victim stated Hernandez was irate and opened a beer. He drank the bottle and asked the victim about breaking the bottle and cutting her throat with it. Then, Hernandez told the victim to pull down her pants, which she did.
Hernandez grabbed the victim by the hair and threw her across the seat of the truck. Then, Hernandez pulled down his pants and raped the victim. A short time later, the victim was able to grab her cellphone and she fled the scene.
Investigators viewed photos of the victim that were consistent with being struck in the face and being struck across her backside.
After the alleged assault and during the investigation, officers were given verbal consent by a woman at the residence to collect the victim’s property from the backyard. The woman also gave consent for officers to seize the wooden board used in the assault.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault and was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on March 2, 2023, and his bond was set at $125,000. He was released on March 28, 2023.
