ABILENE— The Abilene Zoo had just announced that two rescued bald eagles have joined the zoo!
The bald eagles, a 15-month-old named Sparky and a 16-month-old named Leu have been welcomed to the Abilene Zoo after being rescued and rehabilitated at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Florida.
The two eagles are fully grown, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced the two non-releasable due to their inability to fly. Sparky and Leu also won’t develop their white heads until they are five to seven years old.
The bald eagle habitat at the Abilene Zoo has been posthumously named after Keith Garner, the Keith Garner Bald Eagle Habitat. Garner was a board member on the Abilene Zoological Society.
