SAN ANGELO, TX — Friday, the San Angelo Rotary Club recognized the Top 25 graduates of San Angelo Central High School. The recognition is a re-spark of a Rotary tradition to give recognition to graduating seniors annually. Several weeks ago, the Rotary club recognized the Top 25 graduating Lake View High School graduates.
Central Principal Bill Waters introduced each student and along with a short biography, named the university each graduate plans to attend. Angelo State University was the most popular college, along with the University of Texas at Austin. One graduate planned to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy and one other stated her preference for Texas A&M.
Rotarian Ed Hale organized the event. Two seniors of the Top 25 were awarded a $500 scholarship each from the club. The winners were chosen by a drawing.
Dignitaries attending included Mayor Brenda Gunter, San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees President Max Parker, and city councilpersons Karen Hesse-Smith and Tom Thompson, whose son, Creed, was recognized. At the end of the ceremony, the Rotarians recognized retiring principal Bill Waters with a standing ovation.
