FBI Investigating Social Media School Threats Across West Texas

 

LUBBOCK, TX – The FBI is currently investigating numerous school threats that are circulating on social media across West Texas.

The investigation started with threats being made on a high school in Hobbs, NM. At around 11:34 p.m. on May 9, 2023, the Hobbs Police Department released a statement. The HPD confirmed that they were investigating a threat of a school shooting that was circulating on SnapChat. In the threat it claimed that the shooting would take place on May 10, 2023.

The morning of May 10, schools across the area also received those threats. School in the South Plains such as Lockney ISD, Levelland ISD, and Plainview ISD were all placed on high alert. This ripple continued into the Permian Basin and Midland as Midland ISD, Abilene ISD, and Wylie ISD all released statements.

No Concho Valley school district has been placed on the alert.

The Hockey County Sheriff's Office did confirm that the FBI is investigating the incident.
