SAN ANGELO, TX — Inclement weather cut short what was supposed to be a fun competition at San Angelo Stadium on Thursday. The second day of the annual Little Olympics put on by San Angelo’s Kiwanis Club closed down early due to lightning in the area. Still, schools from across the concho valley showed up for the chance to compete.
Before the lightning ultimately ruined the fun, the students and their teachers gathered on the track to represent their schools. They carried their school’s flags around the track before they ran together across the football field during the opening ceremonies. After that, field events began. There were more than just San Angelo schools present. Wall, Christoval, Miles, Veribest, and Grape Creek also sent their elementary schools to San Angelo Stadium.

Several schools participated in the flexed arm hang, chin-ups, and long jump before the weather moved in. After the officials detected lightning within 10 miles of the stadium, the Kiwanis Club called off the Little Olympics. Although it was unfortunate that the competition ended early, the kids still had the opportunity to gather together and represent their schools.
