Texas House Passes Bill Expanding Medicinal Weed Access

AUSTIN— The Texas House of Representatives has passed a bill that would expand the eligibility for people to use medical marijuana.

HB 1805, a bill that is sponsored by Rep. Stephanie Klick, would add patients who deal with chronic pain to be eligible for a 10-milligram dosage of cannabis. Those patients would normally need an opioid prescription. Individuals who deal with PTSD, autism, ALS, cancer, and epilepsy, qualify for the program already.

As of March 2023, 50,000 Texans are currently utilizing the program. Should the bill be passed into law, it could take effect on September 1, 2023. This bill passed with a vote of 127-19 and is headed to the Senate.
