SAN ANGELO – Myshae Allen has won the Boys and Girls Club Texas Military Youth of the Year award for the second year in a row. SAISD Executive Director of Communications Molly Johnson Turk recognized Myshae, a junior at Central HS, for his accolade, At the City Council meeting April 4, 2023.
“We have a very special guest with us today,” said Mrs. Johnson Turk. “One of our outstanding military-connected students, Myshae Allen. Myshae is a junior at Central High School and for the second year in a row has been named the Boys and Girls Club of America Texas Military Youth of the Year.”
Winning the title of BCGA Texas Military Youth of the Year two years in a row is not the only significance of the award. Myshae is also the first SAISD student and the first military child from Goodfellow AFB to receive the award.
“Goodfellow AFB would like to congratulate San Angelo ISD Central High School Junior Myshae Allen for being named the 2023 Boys and Girls Club Texas Military Youth of the Year!” said Theresa Goodwin, Goodfellow Air Force Base School Liaison on behalf of the Goodfellow AFB Youth Programs.
The Youth of the Year awards “Recognize outstanding teens served by BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations worldwide,” according to the BGCA website. Teens have to demonstrate commitment to academics, community service, establishing long-term goals and display good character and citizenship qualities to be considered for the award.
“He’s been awarded this for his academics, his character, leadership skills and community service” Goodwin said. “We are really proud of him and we’re glad he is part of our community.”
Myshae will advance to the regional level in June to compete for the Boys & Girls Club Southwest Region Youth of the Year title. “He will now set his sights on competing to be named the Boy & Girls Club Southwest Region Youth of the Year in June,” Goodwin said. “We wish him all the luck in the world as he continues his journey.”
