NWS Issues Wildfire & Blowing Dust Warning for Friday

SAN ANGELO – High winds and very dry air will combine Friday afternoon to bring in blowing dust across West Texas and increase wildfire danger in the Concho Valley.  

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.  A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur. A combination of strong gusty winds, very dry air, and tinder dry fuels will contribute to extreme wildfire behavior. 

Expect sustained winds from the west at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph, humidity levels around 8 percent and dry grass and brush as fuel.  Any wildfires which ignite could spread rapidly out of control. All outdoor burning and any activity that could create a spark, even commercial welding, is highly discouraged Friday afternoon.  

Winds will subside Friday evening and look for temperatures to increase each afternoon with highs near 80 on Saturday and above 90 by Monday.
