ASU Wind Ensemble Free Concert Saturday

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State University Wind Ensemble will present its second public concert of the spring, featuring works composed by guest conductor Randall Standridge, on Saturday, April 1, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

Titled "Choose Joy: The Music of Randall Standridge," the concert will begin at 5 p.m. in the University Center's C.J. Davidson Conference Center and is free and open to the public.

The concert program will include the Standridge works:

• "Choose Joy"
• "Morpheus"
• "Dues Ex Machina"
• The consortium premier of his Symphony No. 1: "Ghost Story"

"The ASU Wind Ensemble is excited to be a part of bringing this new symphony to life," said Dr. Jonathan Alvis, ASU director of bands. "The work is wonderfully crafted and will surely become a standard of the band literature."

Standridge is a composer, music arranger, instructor and marching band show designer based in Jonesboro, Arkansas. His music is performed internationally, and he is currently published by Grand Mesa Music, Alfred Music, FJH Music, Wingert-Jones Music, Band Works Publications, Twin Towers Music and Northeastern Music Publications. He is also a contributing composer for Alfred Music's "Sound Innovations: Ensemble Development" series.

The Wind Ensemble concert is also the grand finale of ASU's "Band-A-Palooza" event that will start at 10 a.m. on April 1 in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building at 2602 Dena Drive. Band-A-Palooza is a free event for middle and high school band students, who will participate in clinics, masterclasses and performances, culminating with the finale concert.

The ASU Wind Ensemble is directed by Alvis and features over 40 student musicians performing on various woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
