SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to a number of charges including possession, theft, and escaping custody.
According to court documents, on Mar. 13, 2023, Ygnacio Gonzales III, 44, of Paint Rock, pleaded guilty to possessing of a controlled substance, theft of property from the elderly between $1,500 and $20,000, and escape while placed under arrest.
The theft occurred back in 2015. At the time he was accused of stealing a leather sofa and a set of kitchen table and chairs. In 2018 Gonzales pleaded guilty to the charge. The court sentenced him to three years probation.
A motion to revoke his probation (MTR) was made when Gonzales failed to make his required payments and failed to pass a drug test. He failed by testing positive for methamphetamine.
As a result of the MTR, Gonzales was arrested on a felony warrant on Mar. 12, 2021. Following his arrest, Gonzales was taken to Shannon. After being checked out, an officer with the San Angelo Police Department walked Gonzales back to a police car to take him back into custody.
As the officer attempted to hit the clicker to unlock the police car door, Gonzales looked at the officer, said "sorry," and then took off running. Gonzales ran a few blocks away but was eventually taken into custody.
The possession charge was added just this month. On Mar. 3, 2023, Gonzales was once again arrested. This time it was for possession of meth. No details have been released on the arrest.
Now Gonzales will have to spend the next 5 years in a Texas prison. Until he is transferred, he will remain in the Tom Green County Jail.
