SAN ANGELO – A strong Pacific cold front will blow through West Texas Sunday evening after a warm and windy day bringing the possibility of severe thunderstorms.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in San Angelo have issued a Wind Advisory from noon Sunday through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Strong south winds will blow across the region during a warm Sunday afternoon with unseasonably high temperatures near 80 degrees. Then that Pacific cold front will move rapidly across the area and clash with warm moist air and enough instability to kickoff severe thunderstorms overnight.
The main threat will be damaging winds and large hail and most of that activity will be confined to the Big Country and northern Concho Valley. The frontal system should be through the area by about 1 a.m. Monday morning.
There is a 40% chance of thunderstorms Sunday night with temperatures in the mid 40s and north winds of 15 to 25 mph gusting to 50 mph. The windy conditions could down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages overnight. Unsecured objects will be blown around all day Sunday and all night Sunday night.
Temperatures will warm up throughout the week until the passage of another cold frontal system Thursday night into Friday.
Stay tuned for further weather updates Sunday evening and Monday.
