GARDEN CITY, TX — The Veribest Lady Falcons traveled to Garden City on Friday, Feb. 17, to play the Buena Vista Lady Longhorns for the Area Round of the playoffs.
On paper, Veribest outmatched the Lady Longhorns, and that translated to the court on Friday night. The Lady Falcons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Veribest’s defense held Buena Vista to just 10 points in the first half and led 31-10 at the break.
Veribest seemed lax coming out of the locker room, and the Lady Longhorns took advantage. Buena Vista outscored the Lady Falcons in the 4th quarter. However, Veribest built up a large enough lead for it not to matter. Veribest seemed lax coming out of the locker room, and the Lady Longhorns took advantage. Alliyah Harrison and Callie Briley did most of the damage for the Lady Falcons in the second half with five points each.
Cora Blackwell led the Lady Falcons with 14 points and Alliyah Harrison with 10 points.
The final buzzer sounded, and Veribest claimed victory 53-27. Head Coach Tom Briley said this about his team after the game.
The Veribest Lady Falcons advance to the Regional Quarterfinals next week when they play the winner of Menard and Marathon.
