SAN ANGELO— A woman from Robstown, Texas has been indicted in San Angelo after getting into an argument with her boyfriend and pointing a gun at him.
A Tom Green County grand jury indicted Maria Fernanda Garza in January for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. According to court documents, on November 24, 2022, San Angelo Police responded to the 600 block of East 45th Street for a domestic assault that had taken place. When investigators arrived, police informed him that Garza was located in the backyard.
Officers also informed investigators that they had recovered a black handgun from inside the residence and the victim and defendant, Garza, were in a dating relationship.
The victim advised that he and Garza were engaged with a verbal dispute prior to arriving at the residence on East 45th Street. Garza had allegedly gone through the victims’ phone at his residence and, upon arrival, had gone inside to gather Garza’s possessions, and ordered her to leave.
As the victim was gathering Garza’s items, she allegedly threw a high heel at the victim’s face, which hit him in the lip. Then, Garza allegedly went into a suitcase and retrieved a black handgun. The victim said Garza began pointing the gun at him with a finger on the trigger.
The victim was trying to shield his son from the victim and told him to call the police, all the while, yelling at Garza to put the gun down. Eventually, the victim tackled Garza to the ground, causing injuries to his neck and eyes, but safely got the gun from Garza. Investigators discovered the gun was loaded and had a round in the chamber.
The juvenile was interviewed who advised he called the police from a cell phone and the 911 call recording was reviewed. In the recording investigators could hear the victim yelling at Garza to put the gun down. Also, Garza could be heard crying and speaking in the background.
Garza was arrested on November 24, 2022 and posted a $25,000 bond the same day.
