SAN ANGELO – National Weather Service meteorologists in San Angelo have issued the first Ice Storm Warning for the Concho Valley in recent memory which is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
According to the NWS, several rounds of wintery precipitation are expected through Wednesday night in the form of freezing rain or sleet. The freezing rain will be moderate to heavy at times. Total accumulations of about half an inch will be common with higher amounts possible.
Ice accumulations on bridges, overpasses and roadways will make driving extremely treacherous through early Thursday morning. Isolated power outages from downed tree limbs will also be possible.
Temperatures will remain below freezing so driving conditions will worsen Wednesday and continue through Thursday morning.
Travel is strongly discouraged. Don't drive if you don't absolutely have too.
There is an 80% chance of precipitation Tuesday night and a 100% chance throughout the day Wednesday with temperatures steady in the mid 20s and wind chills in the teens.
Expect temperatures to remain below freezing until late Thursday afternoon.
