James Gunn Releases DCU's Direction Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters"

HOLLYWOOD— The DC Universe is getting a sort-of reboot and co-CEO James Gunn has revealed some plans to “DC: Gods and Monsters”.

The DCU has always been a jumbled mess of videos, both live-action and animation, and TV Shows. In order to try and keep up with Marvel and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have tried short cuts to get where Marvel is now and have failed.

Now, Gunn and Peter Safran, a producer and also a co-CEO of DC, have released their first set of a totally and tonally connected “DCU”.

One thing to get out, Matt Reeve’s The Batman and Joker, will remain “Elseworld” movies where they won’t take part inside the new DCU. Which means, two actors will play two different Batmans.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will still release along with The Flash that will reset the entire DCU.

After the reset, Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Mariduena, George Lopez, and Susan Sarandon will release as will Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Gunn continues as Aquaman 2 leads directly into the next couple project where Gunn, Safran, and the writers mapped out about a 10-year plan for the future of the DCU in Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.

Creature Commandos will be an animated series that Gunn has already written.

Viola Davis will reprise her role of Amanda Waller in “Waller”. Davis played Waller in “Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad”.

The real beginning of the DCU will be a rebooted Superman called “Superman: Legacy”. This film will be written by Gunn, and it set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025. The next entry will be an HBO series called “Lanterns” will focus on Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the Green Lanterns. In “Lanterns” will discover a “terrifying mystery” that will tie into the bigger DCU.

The entry after that will be titled, “The Authority”, which Gunn describes as a “passion project” of his and is based on the “Wildstorm” characters. These characters are a group of superheroes who view the world as broken and they will interact with the well-known DC characters.

Paradise Lost will be based on Themyscira, and Gunn described this as a “Game of Thrones” with the Amazons.

Then, the DCU’s introduction to Batman will be in “The Brave and the Bold” where Bruce Wayne will interact with his son, Damien Wayne as Robin and is based on Grant Morrisons comic run. In the comics, Bruce has Damien with Talia Al Ghul, who raised him as an assassin. It will also be the beginning of the “Bat-family” which could include Nightwing, Batwoman, Cassandra Cain, Red Hood, among others.

The next TV series will be based on Booster Gold. Booster Gold is from the future who uses technology to become a superhero.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on Tom King’s recent comic run, will be turned into a huge science fiction film.

Lastly, to bring put the monster in “Gods and Monsters” is Swamp Thing, which will be a dark, horror, origin story. This will feel out of place in the DCU like an Elseworld entry, but it will be inside the DCU.

Gunn ended his video by saying, “Storytelling is always king. That’s all that matters to us. I want to be true to those stories. I want to be true to you guys and really give you something different than you’ve ever seen before.”
