Tom Green County Commissioners Ban Outdoor Burning Effective Immediately

SAN ANGELO – Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved a ban on all outdoor burning in the county for the next 90 days because of worsening drought conditions including a lack of rainfall in the forecast and increase in winds and dry fuels.  

The county burn ban went into effect at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

The ban on outdoor burning means burning of household trash or brush is prohibited.  The Tom Green County burn ban allows outdoor cooking with gas grills.  Residents are urged to use extreme caution when cooking outdoors. 

Controlled burns and prescribed burns conducted by certified experts and scheduled with County and Fire officials are exempt from the burn ban by state law.

The Commissioners Court or the County Judge can rescind the Burn Ban if conditions change.  

West Texas is also under a Fire Weather Watch for Wednesday afternoon which could be upgraded to a warning if conditions deteriorate.
