Dangerous Arctic Blast to Plunge West Texas to Below Zero Wind Chills Thursday

 

SAN ANGELO – A dangerous arctic cold front will blow through West Texas and the Concho Valley Thursday bringing near record dangerous and potentially deadly cold conditions.  

According to information from the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, the first of two cold fronts will make its way through the area Tuesday which will keep high temperatures in the 40s and 50s and skies will be cloudy Tuesday and Wednesday.  

A bitterly cold Arctic air mass will hit the area Thursday with north winds blustering from 15 to 25 mph and gusty dropping air temperatures to the single digits with wind chill values well below zero.  The dangerously cold conditions will has to for over 24 hours and could kill people and pets, burst pipes and damage unprotected vehicles and property.  

The dangerous cold will persist through Friday with high temperatures in the 20s. 

Meteorologists say the only good news is that this is a dry cold front event.  No precipitation is expected.  

Residents are urged to take precautions now.  Wrap exposed pipes, fill fuel tanks, Drain sprinkler systems.  Check chimney flues. Ensure livestock, exotic animals and outdoor pets have plenty of shelter, fresh clean bedding and fresh water at all times.  Extreme temperatures this low can and will kill outdoor livestock, exotic animals and family pets.
