Memorial Day weekend got off to a busy start for law enforcement officers in Tom Green County, who booked in a total of 101 inmates from Friday to Sunday while releasing 102.
Friday started the weekend with 35 put behind bars, including two jailed for possession and burglary, while one person apiece was jailed for marijuana and assault. Forty-six individuals were released on Friday.
Saturday saw the same number of bookings at 35, but a notable increase in those arrested for offenses alleged to have been committed that day as opposed to the warrant-heavy jail log of the day prior. Saturday's bookings included seven jailed for pot possession, five jailed for public intoxication, two picked up for driving while intoxicated and one charged with evading arrest. Thirty-one were released on Saturday.
On Sunday the jail population dropped when only 31 were booked in, however there was diversity in the charges. Three were booked for driving while intoxicated on Sunday, two of those with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 or greater, nearly twice the legal limit. Another two were jailed for fighting, plus two jailed for marijuana possession and two jailed for assault. One person apiece was booked for minor in consumption of alcohol, possession, possession of dangerous drugs, harassment and public intoxication. Twenty-five individuals were released on Sunday.
