WASHINGTON D.C. – Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder expressed Wednesday that he is exploring team sale options. Although the team is not technically for sale yet, bidders are already lining up, hoping to buy the NFL franchise.
One of these potential buyers is Jeff Bezos. The Amazon founder and billionaire spent this year getting closer to several NFL organizations. Amazon and the NFL inked an 11-year deal for the exclusive streaming rights to the NFL’s Thursday Night Football. The Commanders are worth an estimated 4.7 billion dollars, so that a potential sale could end up near 5 billion dollars.
Chief NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy stated on Wednesday, “Any potential transaction would have to be presented to the NFL Finance Committee for review and require an affirmative vote by three-quarters of the full membership.” Three-quarters of the full membership is 24 of the 32 NFL organizations.
Jeff Bezos has ties to the Washington D.C. area as he is building Amazon’s second headquarters there. Bezos also can give the Commanders the new stadium they sorely need. FedEx field is considered near the bottom of the list of NFL Stadiums to play in and attend a game.
Whether or not Dan Snyder actually sells the Commanders, Jeff Bezos will face little to no resistance in completing the purchase and joining the ranks of the NFL owners.
