SAN ANGELO – The first significant cold front of the Fall season is forecast to arrive in West Texas Sunday afternoon and will bring cooler temperatures and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain to the San Angelo area.
According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, a strong cold front will makes its way down across the Big Country Sunday morning and hit the San Angelo area between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. That frontal boundary will be accompanied by moderate thunderstorms with heavy rain.
Temperatures will drop significantly as well. Highs Saturday afternoon will reach around 90 degrees with overnight lows around 66 degrees. Sunday's high will be in the upper 70s and drop with the passage of the cold front into the 60s.
Overnight low temperatures Sunday night will fall into the upper 40s to lower 50s.
High temperatures Monday and Tuesday will reach only the mid to upper 60s.
The chance of rain Sunday afternoon is 70%. Rainfall totals are forecast in the .5 to 1.5 inch range with the heavier rainfall accompanying the thunderstorms. Minor street flooding and flooding of low-lying rural areas are possible.
The average first freeze in San Angelo area is about a month away so this weekend's weather event will just be cold and wet.
Be sure that outdoor pets have a dry place to get in out of the wind and rain.
