Property Involved in Saturday's Big House Fire Burns Again

The San Angelo Fire Department responded to a second fire this week in the 400 block of E. 28^th St. at approximately 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The house on the property where the grass fire was today had burned Saturday morning to a total loss. Saturday, Fire Investigator Karla Steppe said that the house was condemned and will be demolished.

Meanwhile, back to today’s fire on that same property:

Fire Marshal Ross Coleman said that a man was cutting the fence near the property line with a welding torch. Sparks ignited debris, that was left around the house after Saturday’s fire, causing a small grass fire.

“It was a small fire outside, and firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly,” he said.

Added to the complexity of today’s small fire, there was a suspicious tank near the flames that was originally presumed by firefighters to be a propane tank. Later firefighters discovered it was an oxygen tank and were able to take appropriate countermeasures.

Coleman said that the fire was an accident and that the welder explained what happened to his satisfaction. There were no citations.
