Sex Offender Jailed After High-Speed Chase and Manhunt Wednesday

A wanted man, who engaged law enforcement in a high-speed chase out to Grape Creek Wednesday night, was apprehended and jailed by DPS Troopers after taking off on foot and hiding near Wren and March Road.

According to an incident report written by responding deputy Gary Hanusch, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to assist DPS with a vehicle pursuit at 9:27 p.m., who had been following a 2000 red Ford Mustang.

Hanusch responded to Wren and Grape Creek Road, his report states, but by then DPS had lost sight of the vehicle. As Hanusch drove down Wren Road, the Mustang raced past him headed north, and Hanusch turned, flipped on his lights and sirens and gave chase.

While he pushed to catch up to the Mustang he saw it leave the road in the 7200 block of Wren and continue to drive eratically through an agricultural field until the driver switched off his headlights and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, the report states.

A perimeter was set up around the area as officers searched for the suspect, but it was later called off. When dispatch reported that a resident in the 9200 block had called in stating the suspect had knocked on the door asking for help, Sgt. Jason Corbell re-established the perimeter and the suspect was located by DPS.

The suspect, 25-year-old Anthony Paul Vivian, was transported to the county jail where he was booked for evading arrest in a vehicle and driving while license invalid (DWLI). He was also wanted on two warrants, one for DWLI and one for speeding 15-24 over the posted limit.

Vivian's criminal record is lengthy, and includes a July 2003 conviction for indecency with a child sexual contact with a 3-year-old male victim, for which he served five years in the TDCJ. Vivian was also convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on June 18, 2009 and was sentenced to six years. He was released from the penitentiary in January.

In addition to Vivian, 30 others were booked into the jail on Wednesday, nine of which were jailed on offenses alleged to have been committed within the last 24 hours. Those include two charged with DWI and another person charged evading arrest, plus one apiece charged with theft, car theft, assault and marijuana possession.

Thirty-one individuals were released on Wednesday
