Angelo State University has been named one of the Top 25 Animal Science Colleges and Graduate Schools in the U.S. for 2015 by GraduatePrograms.com, an online guide that recognizes higher education graduate programs, based on student evaluations.A component of the ASU Agriculture Department, ASU’s animal science graduate program ranked No. 23 overall, and this marks the second straight year ASU has made the Top 25 list. Programs are ranked utilizing ratings and reviews posted on GraduatePrograms.com by current and recent graduate students. Students rate their respective programs using a 10-star system, with one being the worst and 10 the best. ASU’s average ranking is 7.1 stars.
“This ranking is a testament to the commitment of our faculty to graduate education,” said Dr. Mike Salisbury, chair of the ASU Agriculture Department. “Our department prides itself in being a student-centered education and research program with outstanding facilities for a university of our size. We measure our success as a program by the success of our students as they take career jobs or continue their education at the doctoral level. A national ranking of this nature is proof that our students are successful.”GraduatePrograms.com assigns 15 ranking categories to each graduate program. Rankings cover a variety of student topics, such as academic competitiveness, career support, financial aid and quality of network. Overall rankings are determined by calculating the average score based on the 15 ranking categories.
The ASU Agriculture Department offers a Master of Science degree in animal science that allows students to pick their particular area of concentration. Options range from meat and food science to range and wildlife management, and from livestock production to agribusiness. In April, GraduatePrograms.com also ranked ASU’s College of Graduate Studies as one of the Top 50 Online Graduate Programs in the U.S. for 2015 and ranked ASU’s psychology program as one of the Top 25 Online Graduate Programs for that specific discipline.
