SAN ANGELO – That seemingly endless streak of 100+ degree days ended Wednesday with some much needed clouds and rain that could linger in the Concho Valley for a few more days.
Officially at the airport .18 inches of precipitation was recorded which is the first measurable rain in San Angelo since July 14 when .01 inches was recorded. The last time San Angelo saw this much rain was on June 3 when .45 inches fell at Mathis Field. The last significant rain was May 24 with 1.12 inches.
The drought continues in August 2022 with total rainfall for the year at 3.55 inches as of Wednesday. That's -.42 inches for the month and -8.58 inches on the year. The drought is expected to continue well into 2023.
The streak of 100+ degree days ended at 38 and ran from July 4 to August 10. San Angelo has recorded 73 days at or above 100 degrees in 2022.
There remains a slight chance for additional rainfall in the Concho Valley for the next few days but it will taper off significantly Friday. Thursday afternoon and evening thunderstorms are forecast to redevelop along the I-10 corridor anywhere from Sonora to Kerrville and into the Hill Country.
Afternoon high temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 90s through the weekend before hitting the triple digits again by Tuesday.
