WATCH: Bill's Fight Benefit Raises Money for San Angeloan's Medical Treatment

SAN ANGELO – The 'Bill’s Fight Benefit' for Bill Farmer raised money for his medical expenses at the Spur Arena this past Saturday at the Spur Arena.

In March, Farmer was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer and on Saturday, his family put on the Bill’s Fight Benefit to help raise money for upcoming surgeries and medical bills. At the Spur Arena, Tara Kelley, Bill’s sister, and his family held a roping contest, silent and live auction, and a BBQ cookoff.

At 9:00 a.m., they held a roping competition that Bill was competing in.

“It means the world to me to have everybody out here supporting me,” Farmer said, “I’ve got some big surgeries coming up next month so I thought I’d go ahead and rope today and try to get through it the best I could. Just to hang with some of the friends I don’t get to see because they come from all over the state.”

Farmer also expressed his gratitude for this family and friends for putting on the benefit.

“Nick (Coats) and Glover (Coats) and Clint (Rainey) and Julie (Rainey), and my family, my sister, my father, my mother putting this on. It’s just been God sent. Guys reaching out to do all this, donate their time. There’s a bunch of people here to just hug my neck and hang out and be with me… It’s a blessing to see all these people show up.”

The live auction was held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday which included firearms, saddles, jewelry, and even hunts.

Before the live auction, attendees could grab a plate and some tickets to vote on the best BBQ from one of the 12 teams that showed up including Riverbank BBQ and Uno Mas BBQ Team. Participants voted on who had the best chicken, beans, brisket, and ribs.

Kelley, who spoke with San Angelo LIVE! last week about the benefit had this to say in a message, “We were overwhelmed with the generosity of people in our community.”

The total amount raised at the Bill’s Fight Benefit has not been calculated yet.
