SAN ANGELO – Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo have issued another Heat Advisory for all of West Central Texas including San Angelo and Abilene from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The triple digit heat is rising to near 105 degrees both Wednesday and Thursday afternoons reaching the criteria for the issuance of a Heat Advisory. While this stretch of 100 plus degrees now stretches back to July 4, Heat Advisories weren't issued for many of those days because the afternoon high temperature didn't reach 103 for two consecutive days; the high hovered around 100 to 102 so that's why Heat Advisories weren't issued even though the weather conditions were dangerously hot and dry.
A Heat Advisory means there is an elevated risk of heat related illnesses for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors in the sun.
The best advise is to take the precautions you've already been taking. Drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks, wear appropriate clothing and avoid working in the hottest afternoon hours.
Be sure to check on vulnerable friends and neighbors. Make sure outdoor pets have plenty of clean water and access to shade. And never, ever leave a child or a pet in a locked vehicle, not even for a minute. It is a crime.
Expect the Heat Advisory to be extended Thursday afternoon. There is no change in the long term forecast so the next ten days will see afternoon high temperatures above 100 degrees.
