SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas DPS is leading an investigation of an apparent crash on US 67 South just prior to the 12-Mile-Bridge when traveling there from San Angelo. All lanes of traffic were closed as volunteer fire department personnel attempted to direct traffic around the crash using the narrow shoulder of the road.
On the ground, it was difficult to determine exactly what kinds of vehicles were involved, although one crashed-out white pickup truck was located in the barrow ditch on one side the the roadway. The other side of the roadway may have had additional crashed vehicles.
At the scene, a drone was observed flying around the area and a K9 unit, possibly from the San Angelo Police Department, was on the scene. This was unusual for crash scenes unless there is a fugitive on the run. Tom Green County Deputies were observed with long guns.
Officials at the scene said there was a manhunt for a person of interest but the person was not found.
The Sheriff’s Office notified us just before 11 p.m. that all lanes will be shut down until further notice. However, by 12:30 a.m. crash scene investigators were packing up and the roadway was slowly opened back up.
Everything we have reported up and until now is what our reporter on the ground has observed or heard.
The crash happened just before 11 p.m.
