How Much More You'll Pay for a 4th of July Cookout in Biden’s Dystopian America

SAN ANGELO, TX — The cost of a 4th of July picnic celebration will be much higher this year due to rampant inflation in the U.S. food supply.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the leading cause of the cost of a traditional 4th of July barbecue is the rising cost of beef, chicken and even pork.

Two pounds of ground beef costs Americans and average of $11.12, up 36percent from 2021. Chicken and pork are both up over 30percent. Even 32 ounces of pork and beans is up 33 percent.

For those wanting to skimp and save over last year’s prices, plan your celebration barbecue to only have strawberries, sliced cheese and a bag of potato chips. Those only foods that saw a decrease in price over last year. Strawberries, 2 pints, $4.44, down 16percent; 1 pound of sliced cheese, $3.52, down 13percent; and a 16-ounce bag of potato chips, $4,71, down 4percent.

The American Farm Bureau Federation marketbasket survey tracks the cost of food year-over-year and the survey reports more than a 10percent increase in home food costs over last year. However, food products traditionally purchased for 4th of July celebrations an cookouts will cost 17 percent more than last year, the steepest price hike since they began keeping records a decade ago. Here is a sampling of food cost increases over this time last year:

• 2 pounds of ground beef, $11.12 (+36%)
• 2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, $8.99 (+33%)
• 32 ounces of pork & beans, $2.53 (+33%)
• 3 pounds of center cut pork chops, $15.26 (+31%)
• 2.5 quarts of fresh-squeezed lemonade, $4.43 (+22%)
• 2.5 pounds of homemade potato salad, $3.27 (+19%)
• 8 hamburger buns, $1.93 (+16%)
• Half-gallon of vanilla ice cream, $5.16 (+10%)
• 13-ounce bag of chocolate chip cookies, $4.31 (+7%)
• 2 pints of strawberries, $4.44 (-16%)
• 1 pound of sliced cheese, $3.53 (-13%)
• 16-ounce bag of potato chips, $4.71 (-4%)

Food isn’t the only thing driving up the cost of the 4th of July holiday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) that includes propane gas and firewood is up 28 percent compared with last year. Gasoline is up close to 50 percent—something that will hit hard the 42 million people AAA expects will take a road trip over the weekend. Do you think you will save by flying instead?
