MAYOR: Uvalde Elementary School Where Mass Shooting Took Place Will Be Demolished

UVALDE – The elementary school where a gunman killed 19 students and 2 teachers will be torn down.

According to Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, Robb Elementary School will be demolished.

McLaughlin shared with residents and families that lost children in the shooting that he learned of the plan to tear down the school in a conversation with the Uvalde CISD Superintendent Hal Harrell

“My understanding – and I had this discussion with the superintendent – that school will be demolished,” McLaughlin said, “You can never ask a child to go back, or a teacher to go back in that school ever.”

When school starts again, students will be split between Dalton and Flores Elementary.

In 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut was torn down and rebuilt after a shooting took place at that school where a gunman shot 20 students and six staff members.

A timeline has not been released for when Robb Elementary will be demolished.
