SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo City Council Tuesday morning approved adding the interstate highway route for I-27 north of the city limits to the Master Thoroughfare Plan over the objections of two land owners.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) developed the route and, according to information presented at the meeting, held public hearings on the route.
The four to two vote will add the proposed northern alignment of the future Interstate Highway corridor, located north of FM 2105 and connecting from U.S. Hwy. 87 on the west to U.S. Hwy. 277 and U.S. Hwy. 67 on the east to the city MTP.

City staff said that the approval Tuesday won't have any affect on the route. It just advises land owners that they won't be allowed to subdivide their land or develop land they own in the corridor.
Construction on the I-27 and I-14 interstate highway projects might not begin in San Angelo for up to 20 years.
