SAN ANGELO – Representatives from the 29 counties in the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Angelo marched in San Angelo Saturday to mark the beginning of a three year nationwide revival of the Eucharist.
For Catholics, the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ in the wafer of bread and sip of wine at Communion.
According to San Angelo Catholic Bishop Michael Sis, "What we receive looks and tastes like a little wafer of bread and a sip of regular wine, but it has been transformed into the real body and blood of Christ."
Hundreds of Catholics attended a Mass Saturday afternoon and then participated in a procession through the streets of downtown San Angelo.

After the procession, Father Ryan Rojo held a reflection on the Eucharist at Sacred Heart Cathedral. According to Bishop Sis, "The first year of our Eucharistic Revival, from June 2022 to June 2023, will be a diocesan year. The second year, from June 2023 to July 2024, will be the parish year. The final year, from July 2024 until Pentecost 2025, will focus on outreach to the unchurched."
