ABILENE – Fires across West Texas caused massive amounts of damage on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, especially in Taylor county where multiple families were displaced.
According to multiple reports, during the morning of May 18, ten homes in Taylor County were burned down during the Mesquite Heat Fire. The fire, which is only 5 percent contained is 2,000 acres.
The Mesquite Heat fire is located between Buffalo Gap and Abilene between US 277 and US 83.
In southwest Texas, the Pope 2 fire in Schleicher County is 2,000 acres as well. However crews have been able to get this fire mostly under control. As of 12 p.m. the FlowerMoundFD reported that the fire was 50 percent contained.
Other large fires include the Coconut Fire in Walbarger County, the Mayfield Fire in San Saba County, and the Slab Road Fire in Llano County.
Latests reports show the Coconut fire is 9,000 acres and is 30 percents contained, the Mayfield Fire is 1,250 acres and is 40 percents contained, and the Slab Road Fire is 600 acres and is 50 percent contained.
