SAN ANGELO – Record temperatures as high as 106 degrees Sunday afternoon across the Concho Valley have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a warning about heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The NWS if advising that afternoon high temperatures will range from 103 to 106 degrees with gusty southwest winds and low humidity levels which reach the parameters required for a Heat Advisory from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for most of the Concho Valley.
The extremely hot conditions will be a significant hazard for anyone attending outdoor events or working outdoors. Heat related illnesses will be possible for anyone who spends prolonged time in direct sunlight.
Everyone is urged to take precautions when spending time outdoors. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, wear lightweight, loose fitting clothing and take frequent breaks. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms should be moved to a cool, shaded area or an indoor air-conditioned room.
Elevated wildfire conditions will also be a concern Sunday afternoon but are not expected to reach the level where a Red Flag Warning is issued.
Extreme heat will continue throughout the next week. Look for high temperatures above 100 degrees through next Saturday.
This is a serious weather situation.
